Initially we took some photos to document the condition of the house before the renter moves in later this week.
Here are the photos: Generally, the house is light, even on an overcast or rainy day. That's plus for Seattle, to be sure.
The kitchen with a skylight, and the dining room. Eric took out a load bearing wall between the living room and these two rooms, making a fabulous open space for entertaining, cooking, and eating meals. We love it!
You can see the back of the couch with baseball caps sitting on it. Beyond the dining room is a sun room. Right now Carol's 6'x6' loom is there. She is hoping to sell it this Winter and replace it with a smaller loom that will sit at the other end of the sun room, behind the kitchen wall with Italian ceramics. We won't see it from the dining room table.
The master bedroom with a big skylight. All furniture here was built by Roger.
The nook. Roger built the book cases, but the doors for the bottom are not done yet. We managed to give away probably 7/8 of our books. The biggest section remaining is travel books for places we have been and will return to again. Guess which ones take up most of the space? The light here is wonderful for reading in the afternoon.
The guest bath is cobalt blue. There is a solar tube in the shower. Oops, stuff on the floor!
It's just big enough.
The master bath is grey marble. The cupboards are for our bike clothes and gear. There is a solar tube just in front of the steel grey cupboards, all the better to see our "stuff" hidden away inside. Also heated floors and a heated towel rack.
The two baths were originally long, skinny rooms broken up with tubs, showers and private stalls for commodes. We made them into two baths and a closet. The master bath is spacious and wheel chair accessible...who knows what the future may toss our way. Better to be prepared.
Front door treatment made by Maria, our friend in Pienza. |
The front yard, terrace, and container garden (with 2 columnar apples and three rosemary bushes.) In several years we should get a crop of apples and the rosemary should be approaching four feet tall. Can't wait.
Below, raised beds.
The back yard. Our herb garden is in the shade. There are three fruit trees back there, a cherry, asian pear, and fig. There is also some lavender and a rhubarb bed. The huge shrub in the mid-back is a daphne...smells get in the Spring.
Next stop, Iceland.
