Cows and Craters

We pulled out of Port Campbell, happy to leave the big hills behind us.  We rolled through one of the most fertile parts of Australia.

And we saw cows...

...kilometer after kilometer... thousands of cows.  We were in Australia’s version of Wisconsin dairy country.

After lunch, we had our last climb of the day…up to Tower Hill…which it turns out is an extinct volcano.

Inside the crater is yet another national park. The top of the hill in the picture to the right is the crater's rim.

We were told the park was teeming with kangaroos and emu’s.  For us, no such luck…

...though we did manage to see a black swan with her cygnets.

We finally said good-bye to the Great Ocean Road…300 km after we left Torquay...…and headed west on the Princess Highway.

Our destination this day…Port Fairy…was the first real community where we would spend the night.

It's a small fishing village, where the fishing was good for more than just the people who live there.
